For our eighth act of kindness, MacKenzie, Ben, and I volunteered three hours of our morning to the Adirondack Save-A-Stray. What we thought was going to be a fun day of playing with animals turned into a hard few hours of work.
I first, want to start off by applauding the staff and volunteers at the Adirondack Save-A-Stray. These folks do acts of kindness everyday with the way they work to maintain a clean and healthy atmosphere for these stray animals. We experienced first hand that these animals are in the best possible care. Today, the shelter was open to the public between the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. However, volunteers and staff members arrived as early as 5 or 6 a.m. to get ready for the day ahead. The SEM team arrived around 9 a.m. and jumped right into the “fun.”
Our Duties Included:
– Cleaning the kitty Litter (MacKenzie owned this task like a true boss)
– Refill the kitty food
– Cleaning, sanitizing, vacuuming, washing, and drying the kennel spaces.
– Setting up the cleaned kennel spaces with newspaper, kennel chips, food, and water
– Washing the dishes
– Washing and drying the puppies
We took breaks in between our tasks to play and get snuggly with the animals.
MacKenzie fell in love with a beautiful 5 month old Lab/Rhodesian Ridgeback Mix named Cookie Dough.
Ben started to bond with Fatboy Slim, a chill and furry rabbit.
And I, couldn’t take my eyes off of Lover Boy, he was a beautiful Chihuahua.
Christmas and the holidays are such a busy time for the Adirondack Save-A-Stray. Everybody is looking to put a bow on that furry little friend for Christmas. The phones were ringing off the hook. I am so glad we were there to lend a helping hand, as it gave the workers a chance to focus on finding safe homes for their friends.
